Nintendo Switch 2 is a massive hit, but its relatively small screen is still limiting. Here’s how to use iPad as an external display for better gaming.
Nintendo announced that more than five million units were established its new portable gaming equipment. The new handheld computer sports a new 7.9 -inch display, along with updated controllers, better design and much faster processor.
It has always been great on the switch that, unlike other consoles that are dedicated to handkerchiefs or only work with the connected TV, it does a stall. It can be used on the road or can be anchored and used by display.
Thanks to the iPados 17 change, the iPad can be used as an external video input display. We tested it using game consoles, cameras and yes – Nintendo Switch 2.
Why use your iPad as a Switch 2 display?
While the Switch 2 has a new, larger Air and iPad screen for both of them offer larger 13-inch screens.

Gaming Borderlands 2 With Switch 2 on iPad Pro
This is great when you are alone and want something just a little more expansive. If you have friends with you, it’s ideal for titles with a split screen like Borderlands 2 Or new Mario Kart World.
Half or quarter of each player’s screen has more usable space and makes it more playable. Since joy is removable, it is a great setting.

Gaming Mario Kart World To iPad Pro with Nintendo 2 switch connected
The iPad screens also look beautiful. IPad Pro, especially with its tandem OLED Ultra Retina XDR display, only appears with live colors Mario KartEven more than a built -in switch.
Although we look at the use of the iPad, the same assumption will work for other devices, it includes USB-C monitors, other tablets and even an iPhone equipped with a USB-C.
We recently checked the ESPRESSO display for 15-inch, which would be another great solution for a portable screen that would work with switch 2.
What do you need to use iPad as a display switch 2
Your average user may believe that it should be as simple as connecting the USB-C cable to the USB-C to both devices and expect everything to work. As we saw with the original switch, it is not.

Switch 2 has two USB-C ports
There are several ways to set it up, depending on what you want to spend and how portable you want to be set up. Let’s go through them.
Option 1: The cheapest option is to use HDMI on a USB-C adapt in conjunction with a bundle dock.

There are many out there, but this is HDMI to USB-C adapts to the iPad Pro connection
These adapters usually run less than $ 20, like the one we used to connect our PS5 with iPad Pro.
- HDMI cable
- HDMI on USB-C Adapt
- Energy source
It’s not that you bring with you because you do dock, but it’s the fastest, cheapest and easiest way to go.
Option 2: The second option is more portable, the goal requires further purchase. The aim is to find a smaller replacement for the original dock.
The problem is that Nintendo limits what USB-C ports are capable of. Almost all original adapters for switch 1 do not work with switch 2.

Different virtual docks and adapters no longer work with a new switch 2
Sellers on Amazon must mark their products as “not for switch 2” directly in the title to prevent confusion. Gamestop has so far announced a new adaptation of video output, but it is currently inappropriate.
Available ounce, you need:
- The output of the video adapts to
- HDMI cable
- Previously mentioned HDMI on USB-C adapt
- Energy source

Orion enables you to use iPad as a monitor for video inputs such as cameras or brackets
Finlly, with either settings, you need an iPad application that processes the incoming video stream. For us, the best option is Oron.

Functions for Oron include retro filters, upscaling AI 4K and more
This app is free to download and use. There is an optional purchase in an app that unlocks 4K AI UPSCALING, Video Adments and Retro Filters.
How does it work
Once you collect all the necessary accessories and adapters, it is only a joining everything together. Put all the pieces together and things should only work without a swipe.

Placing the switch 2 in his dock
Because there seems to be no compact compensation by dock, we tested it with the official dock and HDMI on the USB-C adapt. We also used it with a 13 -inch iPad Pro.

You also need a connected power supply along with HDMI output
We put the switch 2 into the dock, connected the power and HDMI cable, and then connected the HDMI cable to the adapter before connecting it to our tablet. Then we launched the Orion app and found that our welcome switch screen was waiting for us.
There was no delay in play, colors and paintings that were great, and it was a solid solution that gave us a larger screen without television.
In the future it will be improved by new cables or tailor -made adapters for a new switch. Until then, it’s an easy way to get the right.
Switch 2 Joy Cons – are they pairing with Apple devices?
As a bonus, we wanted to try where not the new Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons could be paired with any Apple-IPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple TV product. This is the case with other main consoles such as Xbox or PlayStation Dualsense.

A couple Joy-Cons that only works with switch 2
It is not possible from now on. The controllers are not recognized in the intopass mode. This was also the case of previous joy.
Sony and Microsoft both worked with Apple to certify their MFi drivers and it seems that Nintendo is not interested in this point with their drivers.
Hopefully Nintendo will change the race and in the future it allows.
